Issues with Diversity in Online Programs (Cascade G)
David Glick, David B. Glick & Associates, LLC Educational Consulting
Since at least 1954 and the landmark Supreme Court decision in Brown vs. Board of Education, the United States has struggled with equitable access to quality education across race, gender, socioeconomic status, special education, and geography. Ample evidence exists that major disparities correlated with all these factors continue in our school systems.
How can online programs help address these persistent challenges to raise the achievement of all students, regardless of demographics or geography? This session explores multiple perspectives on online learning as a tool to improve access and equity in education. Panelists will include experts in special education, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), culturally-based programs, rural access to technology, and others. Participants will have ample time for stimulating discussion.
